PRAISING EARTH

MISSION & VISION

Praising Earth works to enliven humanity’s relationship with nature through the creative arts and land stewardship. In this age of ecological and societal turmoil along with physical and emotional affliction, a deliberate turn toward the integrity of nature and power of the creative arts can facilitate healing and guide the way forward.

METHODOLOGY

Praising Earth tends a mountainous acreage in northern New Mexico. People gather at the land for community events, immersive educational programs, and land regeneration projects. Praising Earth also publishes writings and music that celebrate nature and hosts live performances of music, spoken word, theater, and dance.

LAND BASE

Praising Earth has its home in the lush Rio en Medio valley on the western side of the Santa Fe mountains. The land is forested with a mix of deciduous oak, maple, and willows and evergreen juniper and piñon pine, animated by the Rio en Medio mountain stream, and surrounded by vast tracts of wild public and tribal lands.

CO-FOUNDERS

Madi Sato is a singer and mentor of Japanese Ainu and Irish roots. From a young age, she was immersed in indigenous ceremony and began creating songs in communication with nature.

Madi has been a performing artist for three decades and recorded the albums: Soul in Love, Madi Sato, and Return to the River. She is also a lifelong actress and dancer.

Madi guides women to awaken and empower their voices through the Song Carrier programs. In addition to the cultural songs she learns and shares, Madi’s original chants are carried by women worldwide.
